uP-and-COMING Michigan artist: Cade
Over the years, Michigan has produced some of the underrated but strongest talents in hip-hop. From Babyface Ray to Veeze and AK Bandamont, the state is filled with rappers of various styles. When talking about anything Michigan related with others, my mind goes straight to their more edgier and ruthless rappers such as Rio Da Yung OG, YSR Gramz and RMC Mike. However, there’s a rapper that’s flying under the radar as we speak.
Cade is a rapper from Detroit, Michigan making subtle waves within the new Detroit scene. His earliest work comes from 2023, with singles like “the one” and “best man” featuring fellow Detroit underdog Lelo. Since then, he’s continued to release several singles which resulted in his July 2024 project, solace.
Cade might come across apathetic on the mic, but he’s confident. On a dark palette of beats, he takes control of his self-narrative. He’s assured about his position in the rap game and takes no chances to have you forget where he stands amongst others. He’s also able to blend this confidence with self-reflection. Throughout solace, he’s deep in thought, whether that’s reminiscing about life experiences from the past or pondering on what’s next. From keeping his circle small to relationships with women, Cade just wants to keep the peace.
Cade’s music is reminiscent of the early soundscapes of Lucki, while keeping smooth and unfazed flows of Baby Smoove. The hypnotic beats with brooding lyricism make for a tripping experience. Take “shroomade”, which features a jazz like piano melody laid on top of reverberating 808s, frosty hats and sharp clap patterns as Cade hurdles through the beat, weaving his way through topics of lust and carving his own path.
Cade is continuing his hot streak with new singles like “tax”. As the Michigan scene continues its insanely diverse sound palette, we look forward to seeing Cade rise up amongst his peers this year.
